SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) Progress
As of 2025, Al-Quds University continues to affirm its dedication to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through a combination of instruction, research, innovation, and community partnerships. The university’s contribution to the development of renewable energy technologies and policies, energy efficiency, and the advocacy of sustainable energy policies has helped Palestine in the transition to a cleaner energy future.
Al-Quds University offers several programs, and in particular, the Bachelor of Professional in Solar Energy Technology and the Master of Renewable Energy and Sustainability, focus on the energy and engineering disciplines. The programs that enable students to acquire the important and necessary hands-on and managerial competencies to address the demands in the solar, wind, hydro, and bio-energy systems, smart grid technologies, and energy policies. Graduates of these programs are well-positioned to champion sustainable energy transformations in various industries.
In research and innovation, Al-Quds University continues to focus on the development of clean and renewable energy technologies, conducting research on solar energy systems, wind energy, biogas, and energy efficiency and CO₂ emission reduction. Such research has advanced Palestine’s energy security and environmental sustainability through the development of scalable renewable energy technologies that are financially accessible.
The university partnerships with industries, governmental institutions, and international agencies continues to be pillars on which the university rests. Al-Quds University, through cooperative projects and technical guidance and through the transfer of advanced knowledge, Al-Quds University advances policy frameworks, stimulates innovations for the changing the current energy systems, and renews the emphasis on cross border and regional renewable energy systems to access and use, on built and natural environment, the local and regional energy systems.
Al-Quds University has outstanding operational and functioning sustainable energy systems. Almost 88% of the university’s total energy consumption is generated from solar cells. Energy efficient lights and smart systems and heating and cooling system further integrated within the buildings. As a result, operational expenditures for the buildings are highly reduced and the carbon footprint of the buildings has also dramatically decreased.
Al-Quds University encourages the-spread of clean energy practices to the public by community outreach and awareness projects. Workshops and training sessions organizes by the university and local citizens and residents educating on techniques and development and energy sustainable building and the application of clean energy and structures and conservation of energy.
Al-Quds University champions the promotion of entrepreneurship and the the innovation in the clean energy sector by providing the needed regulatory and absolute political policy support. This indirectly stimulates the creation of new jobs for the people.
Every day, renewable energy offers alternatives that are more affordable, dependable, and effective. Our current use of fossil fuels offers no guarantees for the future and continues to harm the environment; therefore, we need to revise energy production and consumption. The worsening of climate change, one of the greatest threats to our survival, requires the widespread adoption of new energy solutions. It is of the utmost importance to make progress on this issue as soon as possible.
Goal 7 aims to provide modern energy for everyone, increase energy efficiency two-fold, raise the global share of renewable energy, facilitate access to research and clean energy technologies, and expand and improve energy services in developing countries.
Educational programs in the fields of energy and engineering. Al-Quds University has energy and engineering programs, which prepare students in developing and implementing modern energy innovations. Concentration areas for these programs include renewable energy, and technologies, energy efficiency, smart grids, and energy policy and management.
