Al-Quds University Smoke-Free Policy
In alignment with our commitment to fostering a healthy and sustainable environment for all community members, Al-Quds University adopts this comprehensive smoke-free policy. This initiative reflects our dedication to promoting public health, environmental care, and the well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Scope The smoke-free policy is universally applicable across the university, encompassing all buildings, open spaces, parking lots, university vehicles, and residential facilities. It applies to every individual on campus, including students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.
Policy Details
Signage and Communication: The university will ensure the placement of visible ‘No Smoking’ signs at strategic locations across campus. Regular communication through emails, university website updates, and informational sessions will be conducted to ensure everyone is aware of the policy.
Education and Awareness: Educational campaigns focusing on the health risks associated with smoking and secondhand smoke exposure will be launched. These campaigns will also highlight the environmental impacts of smoking, promoting a culture of health and sustainability.
Support for Tobacco Cessation: Recognizing tobacco addiction as a significant challenge, the university will offer comprehensive support for those seeking to quit. This will include counseling services, support groups, nicotine replacement therapies, and referrals to external cessation programs.
Compliance and Enforcement: Adherence to this policy is the shared responsibility of the entire university community. Non-compliance will be addressed respectfully but firmly, initially through reminders and warnings, followed by disciplinary actions if necessary, as outlined in university regulations.
Designated Smoking Areas: While the university campus is predominantly smoke-free, designated smoking areas may be established at a safe distance from main campus activities. These areas will be clearly marked and equipped with proper disposal units to minimize environmental harm.
Goals and Objectives The smoke-free policy aims to:
- Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke on campus.
- Foster a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable environment.
- Encourage positive lifestyle changes among community members.
- Reduce the health risks associated with tobacco use.
Review and Amendments This policy will be subject to an annual review to assess its effectiveness and relevance. Amendments may be made to adapt to changing health guidelines, community feedback, and environmental considerations.
