Al-Quds University Water Pollution Control Policy
Purpose: To create effective control strategies for water pollution on campus as well as on surrounding areas, and to observe the environmental regulations, our University practices sustainable uses of water.
Scope: It applies to all university activities within academic and research, construction, and campus maintenance and all activities on the campus surrounding areas as well as the activities during the campus.
Policy Statement: Ensuring the water quality is of the highest standards and there are no violations of the water standards, we apply all possible measures, keep monitoring and actively educate and involve the stakeholders within and outside the University.
Responsibilities:
- Facilities Management: Ensures the effective and complete treatment of wastewater in the sewage treatment facilities.
- Laboratory and Medical Facilities: Prevent water pollution by having safe hazardous waste handling and disposal.
- Groundskeeping: Sustainable landscaping, rainwater, and erosion control practices for pollution of stormwater.
- Emergency Response Team: Maintain compliance of all personnel in spill prevention, response, and drills.
- Construction Project Managers: Erosion and sediment control is the utmost during construction.
- Environmental Health and Safety Office – Campaigns on water pollution control and sustainable water practices will be conducted educationally and campus-wide.
- Research Depts – Innovative approaches for the control of water pollution and the sustainable management of water are encouraged.
Procedures –
- Waste Management – All waste, including potentially hazardous water polluting chemicals and biological materials, will be disposed of per the university’s waste management disposal plans.
- Water Quality Monitoring – The university will routinely assess campus water sources for signs of contamination.
- Community – The university will work with local water authorities and community organizations on water quality campus and community initiatives.
- Incident Reporting – All incidents of water pollution are to be reported to the Environmental Health and Safety Office for response and mitigation.
Training and Awareness
- Regular trainings will be conducted with the university community on the techniques and practices of water pollution control and the rational use of water.
- Awareness programs will inform the campus community of their role and responsibilities in water pollution.
Compliance
- All university staff, students, and contractors are required to adhere to the policy.
- Failure to comply with this policy will lead to appropriate sanctions and must be reported to the relevant university officials.
This policy will be reviewed every two years, or more frequently as needed, to incorporate the most effective techniques in managing and controlling water pollution and to guarantee its continued efficacy and relevance.
